This concert highlights the evolution of musical forms and styles, from the classicism of Mozart to the modernity of three major Swiss composers of the 20th century:  Frank Martin,  Klaus Huber — who would have celebrated his centenary in 2024 — and Heinz Holliger. Performed by renowned soloists, including Heinz Holliger himself, the works invite an immersion into the vitality of contemporary music while paying tribute to the richness of the classical heritage.

(Doors open at 7 PM)

In his Étude rythmique pour piano, Frank Martin explores the complexity and rhythmic innovation characteristic of his writing. More introspective, the Esquisse pour piano, a work from his youth, reveals an intimate and meditative sensitivity. Finally, the Petite complainte, extracted from the stage music for Das Märchen von Aschenbrödel (Cinderella), embodies a moment of tenderness and melancholy, highlighting the unique combination of the oboe’s timbre and the piano’s sound.

The oboe will also be in the spotlight in Heinz Holliger’s Sonata for Oboe and Piano, presented as a world premiere by the composer himself.

The soloists of the Swiss Chamber Concerts will also perform three other works by Heinz Holliger, as well as three pieces by Klaus Huber. These pieces reflect a distinctive language marked by attention to detail, a subtle spirituality, and a quest for sonic innovation.
