On November 21, the 50th anniversary of Frank Martin’s passing, we will gather around his grave to honor his memory with music. In the presence of several of his descendants and Thierry Fischer, artistic director of the Odyssée, we will celebrate Frank Martin’s musical legacy and his lasting influence on the world of contemporary music. This event is open to all who wish to pay tribute to this great Geneva-born composer.
BRASS SEXTET OF THE FRANK MARTIN ORCHESTRA
PROGRAM
FRANK MARTIN - Petite fanfare
The Brass Sextet of the Frank Martin Orchestra will perform Frank Martin’s Petite Fanfare. Composed in 1945, this short piece was used as an opening for a large sale organized in Lausanne to benefit French musicians who had suffered during the war. In 1960, Victor Desarzens asked Frank Martin to expand this piece for a concert organized by Radio-Lausanne to celebrate the composer’s 70th birthday. The additional twenty measures were named Sonnerie de cuivre for Radio-Lausanne and flow directly into the music composed in 1945.
